If your responsibility includes planning your deployment strategies then this size does matter. We are using .NET 2.0 for my current project and deploying it though ClickOnce. We are planning to use .NET 3.5 in our next project. So this size does matter for me.

Rick has written an article about the .NET 3.5 runtime distribution size. Size of the distribution now is ~200 MB. Believe Me!!!  After reading the above mentioned article I have noticed it.

Various versions of the .NET Framework and its distribution size
•    .NET Framework 1.0: 19.7MB
•    .NET Framework 1.1: 23.1MB
•    .NET Framework 2.0: 22.4MB
•    .NET Framework 3.0: 50.3MB ( x86 )
•    .NET Framework 3.0: 90.1MB ( x64 )
•    .NET Framework 3.5: 197.0MB

Aron has explained in his post why .NET 3.5 distribution size is huge in size and revealed the actual size of the NET 3.5 distribution.

According to ScottGU’s NET 3.5 Client Product Roadmap, Microsoft will release a new .NET setup this summer which will solve all these confusion.
